Burnley vs Manchester United Match Analysis

In a game of few chances, it took a moment of magic from Anthony Martial to secure the three points for Manchester United!

Our best chance of the first half came to Ashley Young who done well to cut in from the left and get his shot away from a tight angle. Unfortunately, his brilliant curling effort was just wide of the far post.

The one positive we can take from the first half is that it was better than the first half in the reverse fixture where we fell 2-0 down very early on. Other than that, I can't think of another positive. We were seeing plenty of the ball (as expected), but we were finding it hard to create chances. Pogba was trying to be as influential as possible but there was just a sense of frustration from the Frenchman as he was being manhandled whenever he was near the ball. That coupled with some unnecessary sloppy passes made it clear that Pogba was really struggling out there.

Luckily for us, the second half started much better. 9 minutes into the second half, Anthony Martial scored his third goal in three successive matches to break the stalemate. However, the goal was all about Romelu Lukaku! He did brilliantly to find Martial on the left who hammered home a powerful effort into the top left hand corner. For a moment I thought he'd missed when it hit the underside of the crossbar, but the ball bounced on the right side of the goal-line.

Our only other real chance of the half as made (and poorly finished) by Paul Pogba. He carried the ball forwards from just outside our own box and went all the way down the pitch towards the Burnley goal. His poor decision making let him down when he should have played in either Martial or Lukaku for a certain goal, but instead decided to take the shot himself, which was well blocked by the Burnley defence.

The rest of the game was frustrating as we were unable to find the second goal that would seal the win. That led to Burnley pushing with all their power in the final 10 minutes of the game. Fortunately we were able to hold on and the game finished 1-0 to Manchester United thanks to Martial's delightful strike.

Our next fixture is in the FA Cup away to Yeovil Town on Friday. If all goes well, we could potentially see the debut of Alexis Sanchez in a Manchester United shirt. What a sight that would be! I never imagined that it would ever be a reality!
