Serie A Stars Linked with Red Devils Move

Manchester United are currently enjoying a resurgence under the guidance of club legend and stand-in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, following the dismissal of former coach Jose Mourinho.


The latter Portuguese tactician was sacked from the Old Trafford hot seat after a stuttering run of form, with Solskjaer having subsequently taken up the mantle alongside assistant coaches Michael Carrick and Mike Phelan.

He has overseen a strong surge in form and fortunes since he took over the role, leading to many suggesting that the Norwegian could actually earn himself the job on a full-time basis this coming summer.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is also in their thinking, with the Argentine coach having been previously lined up to replace Mourinho on the red half of Manchester. 

Although, Solskjaer has plenty of work still to do this season, as the Red Devils aim to secure a Champions League position ahead of rivals Chelsea and Arsenal. They are regarded at 7/4 with bet365 in the Premier League betting to claim a top-four spot this current campaign, after turning their results around in recent times. 

Meanwhile, the January transfer window is open and Solskjaer may delve into the market to help achieve that feat and cement himself the permanent role as boss. So, here are several targets from Serie A that he could swoop for.

Kalidou Koulibaly  


It's clear that Man Utd are keen to strengthen at the back and they have reportedly made a new centre back their top priority in the coming weeks. 

Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly has become one of the most highly rated men in his position in recent seasons and he has attracted the attention of the Old Trafford scouts. 

The Serie A club are hoping to retain his services until at least the summer though, meaning the Red Devils will have to push hard to force through a deal for the talented defensive unit. He would undoubtedly sure up the club's struggling rearguard though. 

 Douglas Costa

Staying in Italy's top flight and Juventus wide man Douglas Costa is said to be a target of both Man United and Chelsea, with the speedster being linked with a big-money switch from Turin. 

The 28-year-old Brazil international attacker is a creative spark that could help Man Utd in their pursuit of reaching the top four this term, but he will be cup-tied in the Champions League if he was to depart Italy's reigning champions.

Solskjaer may still swoop for the Samba star, who is reportedly keen to depart Juve after starting just four domestic league games this season. 

 Kostas Manolas 

Roma defender Kostas Manolas is another defensive prospect for United, with the solid centre back being linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time now. 

The Serie A tackler is a key component for his current club and they want to keep him until the summer at least. But the Red Devils are ready to trigger his supposed €36m release clause to land their man.

Southampton vs Manchester United Match Analysis

Manchester United fans, brace yourselves for a very long season ahead. The team and anything associated with it are disappointing so far.
Manchester United slumped to another disappointing result at St Mary's in which they failed to beat 10-man Southampton and ended the match with just a point, making it five points from four games. United have now failed to secure three points for the third game in a row.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made three changes from the team which failed to beat Crystal Palace last weekend with Young and Pereira coming in for the injured Shaw and Martial as well as Juan Mata making his first start of the season in place for Lingard who began the game on the bench.
Manchester United took the lead early on in the match thanks to a brilliant strike from Daniel James. But, as per usual, we were beaten just after the break when Southampton levelled the scores through defender Jannik Vestergaard after another Lindelof mistake.

Injuries sustained in the home defeat to Crystal Palace forced Solskjaer to make changes to the starting eleven, with Young at fullback and Pereira on the wing. Mata was picked to play in the number 10 role, despite the gaffer's vote of confidence in Lingard after his dismal display against the Eagles.

Another solid performance from the young full-back who is fully justifying his call-up to the England senior squad.

The first international break of the 2019/20 season is a wrap, and Manchester United are set to return to Premier League action this weekend in a clash against potential top six rivals, Leicester City.

United have entered a seemingly never ending skid of form since the emphatic opening day victory over Chelsea, notching up two draws away to Wolves and Southampton, and a loss against Crystal Palace at home. The feel good factor bubble around Manchester United this season was burst as soon as game week three, as Crystal Palace spoiled United's return to Old Trafford on Saturday. After filling the fans with optimism by accumulating four points from the first two challenging fixtures, the one that was supposed to be 'easy' proved to be the first hurdle. United looked toothless going forward for most of the game, and the defensive errors from previous years came back to haunt them once again in a 1-2 loss.

I stopped watching the game in the 84th minute and started writing this article. A few moments later, I heard some noise only to check and Daniel James had equalised for us, unfortunately Palace scored almost immediately afterwards to drown any hope United had of a win. We had a very low intensity game and our lack of creativity is screaming in our faces not to mention another penalty miss. 
Here are the player ratings from the game.
De Gea  4 Was pretty much untested through out the game. Made some great one on one saves and had very little to do about the first goal we conceded. Yeah, we just conceded another goal. Absolute shambles. De Gea definitely at fault here. Reason his rating is as low as it is.
Wan Bissaka 6 His side was avoided by Crystal Palace and he had some great additions to the attack. Just not good enough for today.
Lindelof 4 Was at fault for the first goal we conceded,. But was pretty much untested for the rest of the game.

The international break has been going on and the weekend went by without any Premier League football. Quite a few United players took part and represented their countries over the last few days. Mostly the games were the 2020 Euro qualifiers so teams played their strongest sides and the fact that multiple United players featured are a positive signing. Let's take a look at how these United players featured over the last few days.
Spain David De Gea did not start Spain's first game as Kepa Arrizabalaga was given the nod. Though he failed to keep a clean sheet, the 2 time Euros winner won the game 2-1. David De Gea finally started over Kepa as they faced the Faroe Islands. De Gea kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 win and was fortunate enough to get the captain's armband after Sergio Ramos was subbed off towards the end. So all in all, a good outing for the United shot-stopper.

As soon as it became apparent that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's preferred formation for the 2019/20 season was going to be a 4-2-3-1 system, it was widely expected amongst the football community that a 'number 10' signing would be a priority alongside the defensive upgrades and the early signing of Dan James. Personally, I saw it as an absolute necessity and the only way in which the 4-2-3-1 system would work for us in the long-term. The 'number 10' in this formation is vital to the team's overall play and is responsible for the vast majority of creative actions and decisions and is required to contribute to both goals and assists regularly. Manchester United vs Crystal Palace: Match Analysis

After the disappointing draw at Molineux it was imperative that United got back to winning ways at home to a team that hadn't beaten them for 28 years. Perhaps surprisingly Solskjaer named an unchanged line-up, especially when you consider Lingard's non-performance against Wolves, along with the host of young attacking players chomping at the bit for a slice of first-team action.

Their was heightened focus on Paul Pogba after the horrific abuse aimed at him on social media so it was great to hear the reception from the Old Trafford faithful when his name was read out. Wan-Bissaka would also be under scrutiny after his £50 million move from the Eagles this summer.

When you look at Palace's attacking options, outside of Zaha it's a veritable who's who of underwhelming, non-prolific strikers, so to concede two goals to them at home is bordering on criminal.
