Everton vs. Manchester United - Player Ratings

Manchester United suffer their sixth defeat in eight games, as top four hopes seem all but gone after a 0-4 loss away to Everton.

Here are the player ratings:

David de Gea - 4
Not much he could have done for the first and third goal, suspect for the second. Hasn't looked himself in recent weeks, and that has continued through his body language in this game.

Victor Lindelof - 4
Forced to play out of position in the first 45 minutes, and still looked like the most competent United defender. The best out of a bad bunch.

Chris Smalling - 3
The scoreline speaks for the collective as well as the individual effort. While not particularly at fault for any of the goals, overall performance just not good enough.

Phil Jones - 3
Subbed off at half-time due to an injury which he picked up with his only positive contribution, a 50/50 tackle.

Diogo Dalot - 3
Like Lindelof, he also had to play out of position. Lost track of Richarlison for Everton's opener, and often looked lost in defence. Didn't offer much going forward either.

Nemanja Matic - 3
Returned to the lineup after a lengthy absence and did not justify his selection in the slightest. Looked off pace in the midfield battle from the first whistle.

Fred - 3
A very poor performance from Fred after a good spell in the last few games. Just didn't look like he was up for it today with a lot of sloppy passes going astray in the first half which resulted in his substitution at half-time.

Paul Pogba - 4
He tried but failed to produce anything positive - just like the rest of the team. Other than a couple of decent passes, he didn't put up too much of a fight in midfield. He was not the leader that United needed to rally the troops today.

Marcus Rashford - 4
Another poor game from United's No. 10. His poor run of form continued as he failed to find any success on either flank before being substituted in the 75th minute.

Anthony Martial - 2
Invisible. Anonymous. Useless. Although he was the only United player to register a shot on target in the final minutes, it was a bad outing for the Frenchman. Unsuccessful dribbles followed by unsuccessful passes.

Romelu Lukaku - 3
He looked the liveliest from a generally absent United team early on, but faded with the rest of the team as the game went on. Didn't ask the Everton back line any questions.

Substitutes:

Ashley Young - N/A
Came on at half-time in place of Jones, but had no impact on a game that was already all but wrapped up.

Scott McTominay - 4
Brought some energy into United's midfield as he replaced Fred at half-time. Also showed a bit of passion and desire that was lacking throughout the squad.

Andreas Pereira- N/A
Came on with 15 minutes to go and took up a place on the left hand side. Didn't have too many chances to impact the game.
