Icardi replacing Lukaku is a no-brainer?

If you were to ask the casual Manchester United fan, if given the chance would they replace Romelu Lukaku with Mauro Icardi, a majority would snap your hand off. After all, it is a no brainier considering how the Belgian's United career has panned out. While in seasons past that scenario was merely hypothetical, recent developments have made this switch a lot more realistic.

How is this realistic?
Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pasterello, in the last few days, has come out to reiterate the worst kept secret in Manchester. He explains holiw a move to Italy ‘would be a dream’ for his client. With Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s scathing claim at the end of the season stating it may be the last time some big players were seen in a United shirt. One wouldn’t be surprised if the big Belgian who slipped down the pecking order since the Norwegian's arrival, would swap his red shirt for the black and blue of the Nerazzuri.

Rumour has it that a summer move would not be straightforward, as the Italian side are set to make deal that starts with an initial two year loan period of £10 million per year, prior to an option to buy at the end of the loan for a fee of £53 million. However, sources at Old Trafford have already indicated the deal would be turned down by the Red Devils' hierarchy.

As this scenario is all stemming from the fall-out with former captain and talisman, Mauro Icardi. The Nerazzuri, would be eager to replace the Argentine’s goals with those from United's number nine and logically speaking a straight swap should be on the cards. Again a no brainier for United fans, especially when you see Icardi’s resumé:

Fact file:
Club: Inter Milan
Age: 26
Nationality: Argentine
Height: 5 ft 11
Playing position: Striker
Contract until: 2021

Icardi is a deadly striker, a "fox in the box" if you ever saw one and handful for any defender. His quick wit and sharp movements have seen him consistently come up big for Inter in their biggest games. A product of the famous, La Masia academy. It wasn’t until his move from Barcelona to Sampdoria, that his professional career well and truly started. With 11 goals in 33 games in his debut season at the Italian club, Inter Milan swiftly snapped him up for their 2013/14 season. Fast forward 188 games later for the Nerazzuri, Mauro Icardi has netted 111 goals, placing him 9th in Inter’s all-time goal scoring list. He would hope to translate the same stats to his national team Argentina, but only has one goal in 8 caps. In order to do so, a step up career wise is much needed and there’s no bigger step up than Manchester United.
