Which competitions are the priority for Manchester United this season and do we have the squad to compete?

Manchester United, much like every season, are involved in many different competitions. As fans we all have different opinions on which competitions should be the priority for United this season, with some fans even believing that we should be at least challenging for if not winning most of the competitions we are in. The challenge for Solskjaer and his management team is to decide if we have the squad to compete in all competitions or whether we should make certain competitions priority and put more of our efforts into them.

I believe that with the current squad, we do not have the depth in order for us to compete for all the competitions Manchester United are in. The Premier League would be the obvious priority as securing Top Four has so many benefits for the club and fans going into next season. Champions League football and what it brings is huge to a club like Manchester United and getting Top Four in the league is our best chance we have of qualifying for the competition next season. Moreover, with the league as competitive as it is currently and our squad not having the quality or depth we need, it would be difficult to focus on the league and also try and win a trophy in another competition.

Other competitions such as the Europa League, League Cup and even the FA Cup are competitions which for this season, I believe we should be playing our fringe and youth players either to give them experience in competitive competitions or to give fringe players game time and chances to impress. We have an exciting crop of youth players coming through the ranks at Manchester United at the moment, so we need to give them game time and these competitions would be the perfect opportunity for them to show that they are United quality and have a future at the club. Some would say that, as a club, United have to try and challenge on all fronts every season but with these competitions having much less prestige than the Premier League, and the reward not being as high, they shouldn't be as much of a priority to Solskjaer.

To conclude, with the current squad and circumstances surrounding this season and our lack of Champions League football, Solskjaer's biggest priority has to be getting Top Four in the league. It would be great for the club and the fans alike if we could get Top Four and a trophy, but we have to be realistic and go all out for getting back into the Champions League, where the club belongs.
