Huddersfield Town vs Manchester United Player Ratings

An efficient but certainly not easy win against Hudderfield sent Manchester United into the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup. In the quarter finals we will play against Brighton & Hove Albion. This win over Huddersfield was a confidence building win to go into two big games against Sevilla and Chelsea next week.

SERGIO ROMERO: 7/10
Dealt with everything he faced comfortably with the intense pressure that Huddersfield put on the Red Devils in the first half and was forced into a few decent saves but never realy looked troubled between the sticks.

ASHLEY YOUNG 7/10
He looks much more comfortable at right back than left back and especially with Juan Mata on the right to whom he played a delightful ball to set up the Spaniard for a goal that was eventually ruled out despite the dubious nature of the decision given.

CHRIS SMALLING 7.5/10
Despite being hammered for his poor performances of late and especially the dive against Newcastle that handed them the goal, the English defender played very well today and defended admirably. He has responded well to his criticism but how long can his form last?

VICTOR LINDELOF 6.5/10
The Swedish international has been left out for a while and has had to take his place on the bench for several games in a row but played decently but perhaps could have dealt with some situations in the game better. Hopefully more game time will continue his development into a consistent first team player for Manchester United.

LUKE SHAW 6/10
He was often stretched by the right wing of Huddersfield when Sanchez did not track back and so had to put in a double shift on the left hand side for United but will hopefully be showing Jose that he is the club's first team left-back and replace Ashley Young in the big games that United have to play in the weeks to come.

NEMANJA MATIC 6/10
He was played around the park in the early parts of the game and must regain his early season form. He will be an essential player for the Red Devils for this season as long as he can regain his confidence and composure he showed in the last few years in the Premier League.

MICHAEL CARRICK 7/10
While he was also played about in the early knockings, the skipper started to control the tempo of the game once United got a foothold of the match and did look sharper and more composed as the match went on.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY 6.5/10

Had to work hard in the midfield but did so well and found space in more advanced areas to free space for Carrick and Matic to work in. He looks like a future star and will want to compete for positions in the 4-3-3 formation that Jose Mourinho has been playing recently.

JUAN MATA 7.5/10
Unlucky not to score but played an incisive ball to feed Lukaku for the opening goal and has made 28 assists since his debut for the Red Devils which is more than any player. He will be wanting to start against Sevilla and Chelsea to maintain his good form and help United to progress in the Champions League and stretch their top four lead.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ 7/10
He was relatively quiet during the game and rarely got the ball at his feet but when he did he was energetic and efficient and played a delightful ball into the big Belgian who doubled his tally for the game and killed the match off.

The Belgian striker has improved in confidence and form dramatically since returning from a head injury against Southampton. He has now scored 20+ goals in all competitions for the last four seasons and is likely to increase the tally to 30+ with at least fourteen games remaining from the season and his form not looking like dropping any time soon.

SUBS:
ANTHONY MARTIAL 6/10
Did not affect the game when he came on and his substitute appearance seems to be an indication that he will be used against Sevilla and rested against Chelsea, he will want to score again soon as the fight for first team places has never been more competitive this season.

JESSE LINGARD N/A
Only had around ten minutes to play when he came on and like Martial, is in contention to start on Wednesday. He has been a United star this season but his mini goal drought may be a cause for concern.

ERIC BAILLY N/A
Good to see our best defender back from injury. He is sorely needed in the big matches to come and will hopefully be rid of this grievous injuries he has had in the past.

MAN OF THE MATCH: ROMELU LUKAKU
