Sevilla vs Manchester United Player Ratings

Manchester United played out a somewhat disappointing draw in the round of 16 of the Champions League last night. However, that draw needs to be put in context. Our very own fans have been blowing it out of proportion due to the scene with Pogba.

First up, Sevilla have a spectacular home record and knowing Jose, there was no way he was going throttle away from home in the Champions League. I had predicted a cagey 0-0 but what irked me was the incompetence of our front-line. Lukaku was as clueless as could be but most of it was because we were set up that way.

Anyway, let's jump straight into the player ratings.

David De Gea - 10/10
WOW! That man is insane. He made eight saves and kept a clean sheet. That made us the first team in the Champions League, this season, to keep a clean sheet at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan. Just pay him how ever much he wants and give him a lifetime contract!

Antonio Valencia - 6/10
He personally did not do plenty wrong but as I have been saying for a while now - he needs replacing. There's only so long before his work ethic gives in. We should call Fosu-Mensah back and start playing him regularly.

Chris Smalling - 5/10
His positioning is absolutely atrocious. His lack of a footballing brain left us exposed behind and gave Muriel plenty of free shots. The only reason he gets a 5 is because he ultimately kept a clean sheet and got the job done. He needs to thank De Gea for that though.

Victor Lindelof - 7/10
He showed why a lot of United fans have been calling out for him to start. He was massive at the back and his passing was on point. He isn't afraid of running upfront with the ball and playing it to one of our more advanced attacking players. Him and Bailly could be a partnership to look forward to.

Ashley Young - 5/10
He should not be starting at left back for Manchester United Football Club. This is not the level we aspire to be at this club, least of all in Champions League games. He gave tons of space to Sabaria but De Gea was his get-out-of-jail card. Luke Shaw offers so much more and he is a natural left back as well.

Nemanja Matic - 6/10
He had a pretty average game. Kept up the pace with the Sevilla attack and did his best to nullify any threat. He did well to pose as a leader to the flourishing McTominay.

Scott McTominay - 7/10
His name was an interesting one to see on the team sheet. Jose seems to like him and I might know just the reason. He does exactly as the manager asks him to. This does not render him spectacular or dazzling to watch but he always gets the job done. He might be our long term Carrick replacement.

Ander Herrera - N/A
He barely had anytime on the pitch. He had to be substituted as soon as the tempo of the game was set. We are wishing him a speedy recovery.

Juan Mata - 5/10
Mata had a rather underwhelming game. He has the odd good game when the conditions are right but of late, he hasn't been offering much. We need to find someone in the CAM/number 10 role this summer.

Alexis Sanchez - 5/10
Overlooking the fact that Sanchez is extremely passionate on the pitch, he actually did nothing noteworthy. But then again, the system was set up as such.

Romelu Lukaku - 5/10
I didn't even notice his presence until he fluffed an easy chance in the first half. He should have scored which would have given us a crucial away goal. Anyway, I want to see what he does in the return leg.

Paul Pogba - 6/10
He has been looking short on confidence of late. Maybe a goal or assist soon will bring him back to the level he was at before. Anyway, I am not too concerned about him because he is very strong mentally and should bounce back before not too long.

Anthony Martial - 6/10
Jose unleashed Martial towards the end to grab an away goal. But the situation overall was not conducive to his game. Jose was saving him for Chelsea. Lets hope that works out.

Marcus Rashford - N/A
It will be unfair to rate him, to be honest. He barely had the time to do anything, except that one run into their box late in the game.

So those were my player ratings! Let me know if you agree and do tell us your take on the game as well!
