Where will Manchester United end up in the race for top four?

Image result for top 4 premier league

As we enter the last two months of the Premier League season, the race for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th is incredibly tight. Man Utd, Liverpool, and Spurs, are packed like Sardines up there. Not only that, but we have Chelsea close behind in fifth place. Where will Man Utd end up in the race for top four?

There are only six points separating Manchester United in second, to Chelsea in fifth. With us now being in the business end of the season, there are plenty of points up for grabs.

Considering the fixtures that Manchester United, Liverpool, Spurs, and Chelsea have coming up, i will try and work out where Manchester United will finish in the league.

First, let’s start with Manchester United’s remaining fixtures. We have Palace (A), Liverpool (H), Swansea (H), Manchester City (A), West Brom (H), Bournemouth (A), Arsenal (H), Brighton (A), and Watford (H). Five of those are at home. Where we have a great home record.

Now, on to Liverpool’s remaining games. They have Newcastle (H), Manchester United (A), Watford (H), Crystal Palace (A), Everton (A), Bournemouth (H), West Brom (A), Stoke (H), Chelsea (A), and Brighton (H).

Now let’s take a look at Spurs. They have Huddersfield (H), Bournemouth (A), Newcastle (H), Chelsea (A), Stoke (A), Manchester City (H), Brighton (A), Watford (H), West Brom (A), and Leicester City (H).

And last, but not least, we have Chelsea. They have Manchester City (A), Crystal Palace (H), Spurs (H), West Ham (H), Southampton (A), Huddersfield (H), Swansea (A), Liverpool (H), and Newcastle (A).

Now lets analyse the fixture difficulty. Manchester United have five of the remaining nine games at home. Which sounds good if you think about it. But considering we have Liverpool and Arsenal in two of those home games, it doesn’t seem as appealing.

But on closer analysis, of those two home games against Liverpool and Arsenal, the real threat is Liverpool. Arsenal are on a downward spiral at the moment. Their form is horrendous. If there’s anytime to play Arsenal, now would be the time.

Our other home games, we have Swansea, West Brom, and Watford. Apart from their blip last week, away to Brighton, Swansea have been in decent form. They might be hard to break down, but we should get the three points against them. Considering the attacking firepower that we have.

West Brom on the other hand, are a whole different story. As of writing, they need eight points just to get out of the bottom three. Which already seems like a near impossible task for them. So, by the time we play them, they most probably will have given up hope of staying up. Thus making it easier for us to get the win against them.

In the case of Watford. If they beat West Brom at home this Saturday, they will almost have guaranteed Premier League survival. So when they visit Old Trafford, they will have nothing to play for. Making our game against them a lot more easier.

Now on to our away fixtures. We have Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Bournemouth, and Brighton. At first glance, it is obvious that Manchester City are the toughest of the lot. Next, it would be Crystal Palace. They are one place above the relegation zone, level on points with Swansea below them, and Southampton above them.

Crystal Palace might not have their best player, in Zaha. But as they showed against Spurs in their last game, they are not easy to break down. They are in a desperate position. With just one win in the last six games, the future seems bleak for them.

Considering our next game is against them, it will be the worst time to play them. I see a tough game against them. But like with Spurs, they may be able to hold us off for a while, but ultimately we should win. Even if it’s by the odd goal.

With the case of Brighton and Bournemouth, they are four and five points clear at this point. The points cushion they have is obviously nice to have at this point. They have breathing space. It will allow them to play with a relatively free style of football, knowing that they are not in immediate danger of relegation.

We face Bournemouth six games from now. And Brighton in the penultimate game of the season. Their games against us may be a long way away, and their Premier League fate will most probably be decided when we play against them. Because of that, you can expect them to play a relaxed game against us. Making it a little easier for us.

In conclusion, we have six very winnable games. And three games that could go either way. But even in those games against Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal, we still stand a very good chance of getting nine points in those games.

I will know try and predict who will end up 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, based on the fixtures remaining for each team. I will say whether the game will be won, drawn, or lost. Then, i will add the points i think each team will get, and add it to their current points tally. Then, i will conclude where Manchester United will end up, based on my predicted total points tally.
