Brighton Hove Albion vs Manchester United Player Ratings

Manchester United succumbed to their first defeat of the season at the Amex Stadium. It was a shambolic performance from Mourinho's men as Brighton beat United 3-2. It was a result that sent shockwaves around the globe as United already fell 3 points behind rivals Manchester City, who had hammered Huddersfield 6-1 earlier in the day.

Manchester United XI:

David De Gea, Ashley Young, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelöf, Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba (c), Andreas Pereira, Fred, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku

David de Gea(GK) : 5/10

De Gea didn't do much wrong in the match. It was the men in front of him who let the team down. He could have saved the penalty though when he guessed it right.

Ashley Young(RB): (3/10)

The England international came in the team for Darmian and gave a horrible performance as a right fullback. He was caught out of position for the first goal as March ran behind him to give a cross for Murray to score. His crossing at the other end was terrible as well as he found the fans in the stands rather than Lukaku and Martia in the middle.

Eric Bailly(CB): 2/10

Bailly is undoubtedly United's best center back. But he certainly had his worst game in a United shirt by a country mile. Constantly caught out of position throughout the match and gave away the needless corner from which Brighton scored their second. As if it was enough, he gave a foul in the box from which Gross scored the penalty. He was a ticking time bomb in the second half as well with his lazy touches and his unawareness of opponents around him.

Victor Lindelof(CB) : 4/10

The Swedish center half was good with the ball at his feet but caught out by Murray's movement in the box which led to the first goal. He tried to bring the ball out from the back in the second half to help the team out in the midfield.

Luke Shaw(LB): 6/10

He was United's best player on the pitch. Covered the most ground and impressed with his crossing and combination play on the left-hand side. He also gave the assist for Lukaku's goal. 1 assist and 1 goal in 2 games has shown that Shaw has worked hard in preseason.

Pereira(CDM): 4/10

The Brazilian was a shadow of himself against Brighton. Man United's player of the preseason and one of the best players against Leicester had a very poor first half where he failed to control the midfield and keep the ball for United. He was substituted at halftime for Jesse Lingard.

Fred(RCM) : 4/10

Fred failed to cover himself in glory at the Amex stadium when he constantly mishit his passes and shots. He was overrun by Propper and Stephens and was hurried into making mistakes.

Paul Pogba(LCM) : 5/10

The Frenchman couldn't repeat his authoritative performance of the Leicester game. He did score an injury-time penalty but constantly failed to find his teammates with his passes.

Anthony Martial(LW) : 3/10

Alexis Sanchez had suffered a knock in training and Martial got his first start of the season. Apart from his bright opening five minutes, Martial failed to get himself involved in the game. He was subbed off for Fellaini in the second half.

Juan Mata(RW): 3/10

The Spaniard tried to tuck in behind the striker and get involved in quick interplay with Martial and Pogba. But his passing radar was off and constantly gave the ball away, much to the frustration of United faithful. Rashford came on for him at halftime.

Romelu Lukaku(ST): 5/10

Lukaku scored United's first goal with a smart header from Shaw's bouncing shot. But he missed an easy chance early on in the game when the score was still 0-0. Even his hold up play was poor as he was bullied by Shane Duffy throughout the game.
