Crystal Palace v Man United: High-flying Reds looking for sixth win of the season

Man United Women travel to Crystal Palace this weekend where they look to secure their sixth win in seven games this season.

Two weeks ago the Reds beat top-of-the-table Spurs in a landslide 4-1 victory, conceding their first and only goal of the campaign so far.

As of yet, the only team to keep United at bay has been Durham who held Stoney's side to a 0-0 draw. A distinct contrast in comparison to the 27 goals they've already scored in just six games.

The high-flying Reds now sit in second position behind Spurs with a game in hand after the fixture vs Leicester was postponed.

Palace, on the other hand, have won just one of their seven games this season, drawing one and losing five.

Despite the amount of loses, Palace can take pride in their defensive ability given that Durham was the only team to put more than one goal past them - proving travelling to Hayes Lane will be no easy task for Man United.

Eagles manager Dean Davenport is relishing the chance to play Casey Stoney's built-from-scratch squad.

''For us, United is a team we want to play against,'' he said.

''There's going to be a big crowd there, which is good, and hopefully, a lot of the Palace faithful come down. That will give the players an extra 10 to 20 percent.''

Confidence will be high for United having beaten off their arguably toughest opponent in the league with ease - so Palace will have to be at the top of their game.

Who to look out for?

Many United players have shone since their very first game, while others have grown into it and are beginning to show signs of top players. 

Kirsty Hanson has really come into her own over the last couple of games and is beginning to cause real problems for defenders. Predominantly situated down the right, she is causing a constant threat for United going forward and if she's not scoring, she's assisting. 

Aimee Palmer is among those who have grown into the game and has shown to be of real composure with a run of games and confidence instilled in her by Stoney. The youngster has featured frequently since an impressive international break with England saw her steal the headlines and being rewarded with a run of starts. 

Arguably one of United's most exciting talents and impressive performers this season has been 17-year-old Lauren James. Signed from Arsenal at just 16, James quickly went from the unknown to the spotlight and possesses ability beyond her years. Playing in the most advanced role of Stoney's usual midfield three, she is constantly driving at defenders with her close ball control making her unplayable. In a game with goals aplenty, James is guaranteed to be on the scoresheet or assisting. 

United will travel to London to face The Eagles on Sunday, with the game set to kick-off at 2pm.

Manchester United returned to premier league action on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Old Trafford, as usual, was in perfect condition. The game was attended by 74,543 people and watched by millions all over the world. What was surprising, though, was that Watford absolutely bossed the game and Manchester United were lucky to leave the pitch with all the three points.
Manchester United went into the game 16 points ahead of Watford, a gap that has since been increased to 19. Manchester United u23’s had to settle for a hard-fought point on Friday night as they came back to draw 1-1 against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, thanks to Largie Ramazini’s first goal at u23 level.
It was a week that United’s academy staff would have been proud to see after regular options for Ricky Sbragia were not considered because of their involvement in Paris during the week. Brandon Williams, James Garner, Angel Gomes, Tahith Chong, and Mason Greenwood will all have benefited hugely from the experience in one the most memorable nights in the club's history of knockout football in Europe.
This meant Sbragia had to rely on his midfield consisting of a trio from the under 18’s- Ethan Galbraith, Dylan Levitt, and Aliou Traore. Centre back Di’Shon Bernard and Ramazini were also selected.

Where do United need to strengthen the most?

Before the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the interim manager, it seemed as though half of the team needed to be moved on, and some major reinforcements were going to be necessary in the summer.

As we stand now approaching the final stretch of the season, it no longer feels that way. The feeling in and around Manchester United seems to be that there is enough talent at the club to lead it back to glory. The summer transfer window should be more about finding three or four solid pieces to strengthen the team that would be the league leaders if we only counted the points earned since Ole’s appointment. 
Personally, I would like to see Ole be given the job, to allow him to bring in some players that he thinks are needed in order to get to that next level and give the team the depth necessary to compete for the league title. The thought of that and a full pre-season under his watch makes me very optimistic for what is ahead regardless of the results for the rest of the season.

Manchester United have, during the course of the season, been crying out for new signings to join the club. The signings that have been most prevalent that need to be made have been a new centre half to accompany Victor Lindelof, a right winger which has been needed for years as both Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard have adapted to the unnatural position, and a right back to replace Ashley Young and to complement Diogo Dalot.
