Wolves vs Manchester United Match Preview

Manchester United returns to action on Monday evening in a game against Wolves. Wolves have been a bogey team for theRed Devils as, since their promotion last season, United have failed to beat them in all three matches with a draw at Old Trafford and back-to-back defeats at the Molyneux.

This game is undoubtedly the biggest test for United in the season so far, here's all you need to know:
Teams: Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United
Location: Molyneux Stadium
K-O: 19th August 2019 20:00pm BST
Managers: Ole Gunnar Solskajer and Nuno Espirito Santo
Referee: Jonathan Moss

Team News
Manchester United are likely to miss Sánchez due to lack of match fitness, Bailly due to his long-term knee injury and Fosu-Mensah due to a knee injury sustained whilst on loan at Fulham last season. Wolves team is all available as they do not have any injuries or suspensions but may rotate after their 4-0 win in the Europa League on Thursday.

Team Stats:

  • Wolves lost none of their three games against Manchester United in all competitions last season (W2 D1 L0), winning both of their games at Molineux. Wolves are unbeaten in eight Premier League home games (W6 D2), a run which includes a victory over Manchester United.
  • Wolves are looking to win three consecutive top-flight games at Molineux for the first time since November 1980. Manchester United are winless in their last four Premier League away games (D1 L3). They last had a longer such run on the road between April-November 2014 (seven games under David Moyes, Ryan Giggs and Louis van Gaal).
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjær has lost all three of his games against Wolves in all competitions with the two defeats as United boss adding to his previous defeat as Cardiff manager in August 2014.
  • Wolves' Raul Jiménez was involved in seven Premier League goals against 'big six' sides last season (4 goals, 3 assists). Only Sergio Aguero (9) and Raheem Sterling (8) were involved in more.
  • Anthony Martial has scored 49 goals for Manchester United in all competitions, more than any other player at the club in that time. He could become the 53rd player to reach a half-century for the club.

Predicted lineup:
De Gea (c), Wan Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Pereirra, Rashford, Martial, Lingard

Predicted score:
This is going to be an interesting match as we will learn more about both teams. How United managed to play against a team that will allow them to have the ball will be fascinating as they won’t be able to utilise their counter-attacking tactics. Given the form and good pre season Manchester United had and given the fact that Wolves already had a mid week game, it's a 3-0 win for Manchester United for me.
