Manchester United vs Colchester United Preview

Source: The Press Face

On Wednesday 18th of December Manchester United play Colchester United in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup, this is the first time the two teams have faced each other since 1983 and will be Colchester's first ever game at Old Trafford. Manchester United are heavy favourites for this game, as they take on a Colchester side who sit 9th in League Two. United come into the game in good form as they are undefeated in their last 5, winning 3 and drawing 2. Furthermore, there will be heavy rotation by United during this game which gives a chance for the youth to impress and prove if they have what it takes to be a future Manchester United player.

This will be by no means an easy game though as Colchester have knocked out both Spurs and Crystal Palace in previous round of the competition, so United will have to be wary of the underdogs. Additionally, Colchester have only conceded one goal in the last 4 Carabao Cup matches and have scored 6 in the process, so United will have to be solid both offensive and defensively if they are to get the victory from this game.

So in terms of the team, we expect to see several chances from United's usual starting XI. This game, much like the Astana game a few weeks ago, is an opportunity for the youngsters to make an impact and show the management and the fans that they can play for a team like Manchester United. The main man to watch in this game will be the inform youngster Mason Greenwood. Greenwood has 7 goals and two assists in 7 starts in all competitions for Manchester United's senior team this season, showing real potential for him to be a superstar in the future.

Predicted XI: Romero, Laird, Tuanzebe, Jones, Williams, Matic, Garner, Pereira, Mata, Chong, Greenwood

The game should be a tough and challenging one for the youngsters as they get to test themselves against a team that will be determined to get the victory and cause a cup upset. I do believe however, that this team will have enough quality to get the victory and progress into the next round.

Predicted score: Manchester United 2-0 Colchester United
