Manchester United must take the momentum of their Carabao Cup Quarter-Final win into their next Premier League match at Vicarage Road against bottom side Watford. Here’s all you need to know:

Teams: Watford vs Manchester United
Date: Sunday 22nd of December 2019
KO Time: 14:00 GMT
Location: Vicarage Road
Managers: Nigel Pearson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Referee: Lee Mason

Form:
Watford are winless in five and have failed to score in the last three games and have only won once this season. While they performed better against Crystal Palace and Liverpool, they remain toothless and unable to take their chances.
Last Five: LLLDL
Manchester United are unbeaten in six games, scoring 14 goals while beating Manchester City, Tottenham and qualifying for both the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and the Round of 32 of the Europa League.
Last Five: WWWDW

Team News:
Watford should have Adam Masina and Roberto Pereyra back for the clash. Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, Daryl Janmaat and Sebastian Prodl remain injured and Jose Holebas joins those injured. New signing Joao Pedro remains ineligible to play until January.
For Manchester United, Paul Pogba is back in training and has travelled with the squad to London so could feature. Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are back in training but will take time. Diogo Dalot played for the u23’s last night and could feature in the next couple of weeks and Marcos Rojo has also returned to training.

Interesting Facts:

  • Since Watford were most recently promoted they have only won once against United in 2016, losing seven times with United scoring 15 goals to Watford’s 8.
  • Of those eight matches, the top goalscorers are all set to start with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Troy Deeney all scoring three goals in these games.
  • United are on a 12 game Premier League run without a clean sheet, the longest current run without a clean sheet in the league.
  • United’s last direct free-kick goal came exactly one year ago today against Cardiff and since that, United have failed to score one in 31 attempts
Predicted Lineup and Score:
United are likely to keep an unchanged lineup from the side that drew with Everton as the team did have enough chances to win the game easily. Pogba may be on the bench with Greenwood and although he did play very well, he may come on to make an impact as he did against the Toffees.
De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire (c), Shaw, McTominay, Fred, James, Lingard, Rashford, Martial

United should win and it would be hugely embarrassing if they fail to do so. I am optimistic United can win but it will be tight and nervy.
PREDICTED SCORE: 1-2 United win
