Manchester United vs Huddersfield Town Player Ratings

Just days before the anniversary of the Busby's Babes Munich airplane disaster, which took place 60 years ago on February 6th, Manchester United took the field against Huddersfield.  Here is how they performed in the 2-0 win.  Before we get into the ratings, I want to take this opportunity to remind you fellow Reds that we should not refer to the squad as "Man U" ever, it is a reference to the tragedy in a derisive chant.

So, without further ado, he is how the squad performed at Old Trafford:

Goal Keeper: David de Gea - 7

I mean, I could have started in goal for Man United on Saturday.  The keeper had nothing to do save for a bit of distribution.  However, he was excellent in distribution as usual attempting just 15 passes, but completing over 93% of them.

Backline:

Left Back: Luke Shaw - 6.5

The defender got his spot back in the 11 after Ashley Young started against Tottenham in midweek.  Shaw was solid yesterday maintaining his position, his linkup play offered some poor touches but, his passing was spot on.

Right back: Antonio Valencia - 6.5

With United in possession most of the match, Valencia was a factor moving forward.  He offered a threat moving forward, and like his passing was spot on as well.

Centre Back - Marcos Rojo - 6.5

Welcome back Marcos Rojo! After a poor performance in midweek by Phil Jones, Rojo got the start at one of the CB positions and was excellent.  He was a factor moving forward and covered his man and his lines well.

Centre Back - Chris Smalling - 7

Great bounce back for the defender.  Great in the air, and confident.  With United venturing forward most the match, Smalling did well covering up acres of space when Huddersfield tried the rare counter.

Defensive Mid - Nemanja Matic - 8

TREMENDOUS.  A few days after looking old and slow at Tottenham, the defensive mid was all over the pitch on Saturday.  He was instrumental in United's breakthrough goal and had key touches all match long.

Defensive Mid - Scott McTominay - 6.5

A bit shaky early, but then rounded into the form as the match went on.  Good linkup play with the forwards and attacking midfielders, and confident on the ball.  Should have drawn a foul in the box that went uncalled when he attacked a header and was brought to ground.

Right Attacking Mid - Juan Mata - 8

Excellent performance.  The man who seemed to have his spot most threatened by the arrival of Alexis Sanchez got the start ahead of Martial who struggled in midweek.  Mata turned in a great performance and had the assist on the opening goal.

CAM - Jesse Lingard - 5.5

He demanded attention from Huddersfield all match, but didn't offer much in attack.  Subbed off.

LAM - Alexis - 8.5

Very solid performance for the attacker.  Good in recovery runs, and defiant on the ball.  All over the pitch as you would expect.  Earned the penalty himself and converted on the rebound for a hole debut goal.

F- Lukaku - 7

Waited for his chance, and when he got it, he was clinical.  The breakthrough goal that led to all three points.

SUBS

Pogba for Lingard - 6

Brought some energy and looked into it.

Rashford for Mata - 6.5

He looked like he had something to prove and hustled.  Looked vibrant in attack.

Martial for Lukaku - 5

Touches betrayed him, he seems to be losing his form.
