Manchester United U23’s welcome West Brom U23’s this Friday night in a game that will be played at Old Trafford. United come into this game 6th in the league and 11 points behind leaders Wolves. The Red Devils are currently on a terrible run with no win in 5 and their last league win coming in the middle of December, Ricky Sbragia will be hoping his side can pull this round and not let the season fade away.
While the visitors come into this game in 9th position, one place above the relegation zone and 5 points behind United. The baggies form has also been slightly better than United’s, with them having two wins out of the last three outings.

This is the first game United U23’s have had in over a month and Ricky Sbragia will be hoping to call upon his big hitters for this game. Sbragia and his staff will be hoping the experience the likes of Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, and James Garner have had in the last few month will help his side pull through this difficult run and help the Red Devils climb up the table.

The reverse fixture which ended 1-1 was a very low-key affair at the Hawthorns, with no side really deserving of the 3 points. United had Josh Bohui to thank who came off the bench to rescue a point for Sbragia’s men. However, in this game United were missing numerous key individuals for the tie and West Brom had a few first teamers playing that night in November. A key difference for the game to come...
Sbragia will be hoping this time around, he can call upon his first choice starting XI and with numerous changes in the last few months at the Hawthorns - players leaving and allowing academy players to get chances in the first-team - United will be hoping for a different outcome.
A win for either side on Friday will ease relegation concerns but while three points for United wouldn’t see them move position, it would see them looking more ahead than behind their shoulder.

Finally, with no game this weekend for United’s first team, it could be another opportunity for Solskjaer and his staff to cast their eye over some of the academy players and see the potential of the up and coming youngsters.
